WASHINGTON — Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have requested

that their upcoming depositions before the House Oversight Committee be conducted in a public hearing. The committee is currently investigating the connections between the late financier Jeffrey Epstein and various high-profile figures.

The Clintons were originally scheduled to provide closed-door testimony regarding their past associations with Epstein. However, the couple has expressed concerns over the potential for selective leaking or partisan framing of private transcripts.

Investigative Context

The House Oversight Committee, led by Republican members, has focused on Epstein’s social network and the handling of his criminal investigations.

  • The Clintons’ Position: Bill Clinton stated on social media that a public hearing is the “right way” to proceed, characterizing closed-door sessions as lacking transparency. Hillary Clinton noted that they have already provided relevant information to the committee and welcomed a public forum.
  • The Republican Stance: Committee leadership had previously threatened a contempt vote to ensure the couple’s cooperation. Proponents of closed-door sessions often argue they are necessary to prevent grandstanding and protect sensitive investigative leads.
  • The Democratic Stance: Supporters of the Clintons argue the probe is politically motivated, specifically noting that Donald Trump—also a former associate of Epstein—has not been subpoenaed by the current committee.

Evidence to Date

The Justice Department recently released a significant archive of “Epstein files,” consisting of approximately three million documents and media files.

Criminal Findings: To date, no evidence within the released files implicates either Clinton in criminal activity or Epstein’s sex trafficking operations.

Bill Clinton: While the former president is mentioned in flight logs related to Clinton Foundation humanitarian trips in the early 2000s, he maintains he never visited Epstein’s private island.

Hillary Clinton: She has denied having meaningful interactions with Epstein or traveling on his private aircraft.
